Is this just a fluke ? Is this his way of appearing to avoid party politics while still advancing his agenda ? Or does he just like passing bills with captions credited to him ?

Before Bush there were only 600 by all other Presidents combined. Under his watch he's issued 800 and one John McCains bill addressing torture of detainees. He added a disclaimer giving him the option to ingnore the law if it suited his need as Commander and Chief.

signing statements are a pretty new thing starting with reagan if i'm not mistaken.

He has not had any reason to veto as the congress has been his rubber stamp.
there has been no oversight.

BUt what you have now is an election year, and a lame duck president.

politicians wanting to hold on to power need to distance themselves from a low polling pres.

Arlene Spector is the first seed in control of the presidents overreach of the constition in the use of signing statement.

arlen want to sue the president over this saying the pres has limted options provided for in the constition and signing statement aint one of them.

Spector doesn't want to impeach but suing is a step in the right direction.
