Many people have this reaction--I do too.

It's thought to be caused by some of the nerves from your nose getting "crossed" with the nerves that come from your iris. Bright light hits your iris and it sends a signal to your brain that it's irritated. Somewhere along the path the signal gets crossed into the nerve from your nose, and your brain gets a message that your nose is irritated--provoking a sneeze.

It's kind of like that game "telephone" where the original message gets transformed as it travels.

Interestingly, most people sneeze a set number of times when they go out in sunlight--it's two for me. I had an ex-girlfriend who would never say "God bless you" at the first sneeze, she'd just look at me waiting for the second one...

Of course we all do that! Silly!
The question is, does ZZ Top sneeze when looking at bright light. They never take those dang shades off.

up to 25% of us of do

this is because of the close association between the eye's 'optic nerve' and nerves that stimulate the sneeze reflex

this is known as photic sneeze reflex

also called Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helioophthalmic Outburst Syndrome (Known as ACHOO)
