I past times that would be true, but in recent times there are plenty of new deals between USA and India.
You could say that in last 6 months a new page was writen in a book of USA and India relations.
Pakistan had traditional relations with USA specificaly in connection with Afghanistan, and since the Russian invasion of Afghanistan USA had used Pakistani resources for controling some events in that region.
There are also multitude of problems that could arise if islamic party comes to rule in Pakistan so it is better to support Musharaf rule ,to secure the nukes in their possesion.
India has become a very potent maket for USA economy ,and USA is positioning itself on it.
I also think that in last months there was some nuclear technology deal in progres, and that in a last few days has been approved by congres or senate.
Look at these implications. Nuclear power is a must for India economy, and America will give it.
Also America loves to be now connected with the biggest democracy in the world ,and to see it flourish.
Of courses money is always in the play, and since a lot of american companies offshore their business in India there are a new and new oportunites for a interrelationships on much larger scale then previusly ever though.

Maybe India should not have supported the Soviets...but I must admit, Pakistan is not to be trusted.

It's a mystery. Perhaps something to do with the mystery of Bush's serious lack of intelligence.
