Socially, yes.

They were excluded from academics and politics for sooo long that they have made inroads into the popular culture and sports.

Hip Hop is used to sell McDonalds, and icons like Jay Z are used to sell software.
Fashion and youth culture,
sports ect.

Yet in hollywood, there is a very short list of movie makers, not actors movie makers.......

whereas it is diffrent in the music biz.

literature.......you have a strong tradtion.

in acadmeics it seem limited to select harvard professors.

but politics......
if you refer to Rice and Powell.
i would only venture to say they take orders, and do what their told versus they have an honest open and powerfull influnce on what happens.

Blacks are grossly underrepresented on the national political scene.

you could however make the argument on the local level or state level.

Barack Obama seems to be the only senator, and the house as you know does have its represnetive but at what percentage is hard to say.

as for civil rights........yes. however there are movements that have tried to diffuse thier influence and effectiveness.

i could be wrong but this is my opionion.

Actually they are not. They have laws that give them a heads up on give-away programs. Also, they get points for government jobs. If a white male gets the government job, blacks cry prejudice, even when the white male starts forty points behind.

All the crap that is happening is alienating blacks and causing other races to hate them. Being hated is certainly not being influential.

When it comes to athletics, or hip hop stuff, but nothing really important. Nothing they are influential in will change the world or make it a better place. sorry but thats the fact. They have a bad rap all over the world. That reputation precedes any "influence" they might have.
