I bought a Dell Inspiron e1505 with Intel core duo processor T1050 (2mb/1.6 GHz/533MHz), 100 gb hard drive 5400RPM, 1 gb memory DDR2 533Mhz 2 Dimm, 15.4 inch screen with truelife, cd/dvd burner, windows xp professional, microsoft works, 9-cell lithium ion battery, 2 year warranty, laser printer, lock, flash drive, surge protector, and mouse.

It cost 1400 dollars.

Did I get a good deal? I don't know much about laptops (or computers in general). Should I have gotten Microsoft Office?

NOTE: I'm going to college in a month, this was close to what my school suggested, a bit better though.

Thanks for your thoughts!

It sounds like mean machine. Way to go! Microsoft Works is fine if you want a basic word processor, calendar etc. The Works Suite includes Encarta; Microsoft Office is expensive and requires a steep learning curve to master. Anyway, you'll probably have access to it at college so you can check it out yourself!

I personally think you got it a bit expensive, right now all the companies have offer going on for college students and they are all most half the price what you got your laptop for, with nearly the same configuration.
For 1400 you could have got some thing much better then what you have, i am not trying to disappoint you but trying to give a good advice so that next time you do not make the same mistake.

And I personally prefere Toshiba to Dell.

Yes, you got a good deal! By the way, is your laptop equip with wireless feature? That will be a plus point! You will need MS Office for your college works, and antivirus software.

You've got the computer now...so no use harping on that. However; if you're going to do anything in the business field you will definintly need Microsoft Office!!!!!
