Yes. I'm not mentally unbalanced, but sometimes you get yourself in a rut. You need to stop digging. When you talk things out, ( and hear yourself) a lot of things in your mind are resolved. This is because the counselor is neutral in your life. they are someone who isn't going to judge you. A counselor is also someone who can point you in a direction that is more positive.

Yeah. The first time was when when I was 16, after repeated suicide attempts. I didn't find it very helpful at the time, but I don't really know how much I wanted it to work. A few years later, when I was 21 or 22, I saw a really good guy for about 3 months. I didn't finnish the course, but it was very helpful. The only problem is that I have bad memories of that time, and the reasons I had to stop seeing him, so I don't look back on it with a great deal of positivity. Last year I got a referal to a substance abuse centre to get treatment for my chronic depression, anxiety and substance issues, but I didn't follow it up. I'm planning doing so soon though. Hopefully if I stick at it I can sort out my various problems.

I found therapy helpful. A therapist can be a lot more objective than friends and family.

Nope. It's just a waste of time and money.
Just gimme the following:
A good nights' sleep
A well-balanced diet
Exercise (mixed martial arts would be the "in" thing now)
Read classic novels and philosophy books
Play intellectual games like chess
Most important....just chill out and live life.

I dated a girl who went to both a psychologist and a psychiatrist and it helped me determine that I don't need therapy.

I don't go anymore, but I used to. No it did not help me. All they want to do is medicate you.
