Almost all Chinese will know this. If you can get hold of it, that's the best. Nim Jom Pei Pa Kou. It's a honey-like caramel mixture which helps to lubricate the throat. Made with loquats, honey and chuan bei. I'm aware it maybe difficult to get in the west but if you try going to the nearest Chinatown where the medical halls are, they should be selling. If not, mix a tablespoon of honey, juice of a lemon or lemon slices and a drop of peppermint essential oil into a glass of hot water. Do this once everyday even after you've recovered from your hoarse voice as a maintainance. Must always rest your voice. Don't shout or eat chillie-stuffs and fried foods. Drink lots of water.

Drink plenty of water to keep your vocal chords hydrated. Also try hot tea with honey and lemon, naturally soothing. Honey and lemon cough drops will also help in between cups of tea and water.

Hydrate yourself by drinking water, even when you aren't thirsty. For the first day, drink water and keep quiet--try not to talk. Let your vocal cords rest. As you drink water throughout the week, your voice should clear.
