This is a very difficult question to answer as every reacts to being in love and having their heart broken in different ways. You have made a very positive move by recognising that though you love this person they are not mentally or emotionally doing you any good at all.
Work on that positivity; be creative, get out and enjoy yourself. You never know what lies around the corner - you may just bump into that perfect someone!

The sooner you end it the less the pain will be. You'll get over it, guaranteed. Over time you'll be happier and you'll be a better person for it. The main thing is NO CONTACT whatsoever once the break-up is done. It can be a dangerous time for you so take a vacation if it's feasible. It will take time for you to get your head straight, so do not start a new relationship for several months at least.

There is no painless way soooo make the break absolute, no messing around, no way back, no emotional, passionate reunions.

Resign yourself to a few months feeling bad and do whatever you can to ease that by doing stuff you enjoy. Don't be tempted by other potential lovers at that time, wait until you are 'healed'.

Try not to dwell on it, remember good times for what they were alongside all the bad, impossible stuff that led you to make and stick to the right decision.

Distance ! I found that the only way was to get so far away from her that I couln't maintain contact and after a long time I began to start looking at other women and think less about her. after several years we met again by chance and it wasn't so difficult to walk away again. in another 10 years i might be completely over her...........

occupy yourself. find things you like to do and keep busy. or find new things you enjoy. soon, you'll be over them and happier than ever. also, surround yourself w/ good company. you'll be having so much fun w/ your friends, you wont care that that person is outta your life. you'll prolly look back and see things for the better after all. apparently somehting is wrong w/ them for breakin up w/ u in the first place right?!

Disconnect from this person and rely on family and friends to help you through it. I know it will be hard, but you have to picture where you want to be in 5 years time, what sort of life do you want? and focus on this!
Good luck with it!

get any picture that you can find of the person and shred it to bits by hand very slowly...and then cast the peices ot the wind...
or if you live near the coast...
write i love you no more in the sand and keep watching the sea wash it away in the sand until you feel better..

It's a tuff thing to do, you need strenght, a lot of strenght. You must be totally sure of what you want.
By the way, what's the reason anybody would want to get over one he trully loves? I know i was sorry for doing it...

I suppose you could get some drinks in and look at some dating sites to see what else is on the menu of love.
