What's the first thing that comes to mind when you see a black girl?

it's like when i see an asian girl I automatically think of the colour pink - I dunno y 8-| - simple question... u can think chicken wings if u want lol..it wont bother me

Simple question, but it really made me think!

Honestly, the first thing that would come to mind is a good deal of happiness. The place where I live offers very little diversity, so I am always happy when I see a Black girl, or a Latina girl, or an Asian girl, because it means my community is slowly growing more diverse. The second thing that would come on the heels of that is a sincere hope that she is being well-treated here, and not suffering discrimination or hurtful comments, because not everyone where I live is as happy about diversity as I am. Actually, I don't know that they aren't happy about it, it's just that they are so surprised sometimes, that they say the very first thing that pops into their heads and don't really think about how they come across. Once, in a store, I heard someone say, "Oh! God! You sure are dark, aren't you?" That really made me cringe, until I heard a good, solid laugh, and the girl responded, "Yes, I sure am, compared to you!"

With that said, when I am in a place that offers a lot more diversity, like California, or Florida, I don't have the happiness thoughts. I just see another girl, and smile and say hello, the way I do with everyone else.

Really, it depends on what she's doing. I look at her actions moreso than her face or clothing. If I see a black woman walking with a briefcase, quietly minding her own business I think, "She's really pretty...I wonder what occupation she has."

If I see a group of young girls dressed sort of trashy and being loud and boisterous I think, "Why do people have to act like that? It's annoying and offensive and I wish they'd stop."

If I see a very pregnant black woman I think, "That poor woman...she looks like she's going to pop!"

I have these thoughts for other people too, not just black people.

I live in South Carolina and work for the Post Office. My boss is a black woman, her boss is a black man, his boss is a black woman, the district boss is a black man. Half the people I work with are black.
To see a black girl walking down the street for me is like seeing a bird in a tree, no big deal.

First thing is that she's beautiful. I love the color of the black skin. I'm so pale that it's scary. Yes, that IS my first thought, but after that, the color of the skin means nothing to me, just the person within.

Too busy to notice people, always pushing a pram or holding reins on small child. Next-door neighbour has black dad, white mum; she's pretty dark-skinned with afro hair. I think she is herself. She's my good friend.
