Good teachers are born but excellent teachers are made!

We are all born with innate talent in different areas which can be improved with specific training. To be effective at teaching you need to have good communication skills, a sound knowledge base for the subject you are teaching, confidence, a range of teaching skills and you need to be approachable. Some of these attributes can be learned but some are inherent within.

I'm sure Linford Christie was fast as a young man but would he ever have won an Olympic gold if he hadn't worked on his gift? Expertise in teaching can be developed by learning about different teaching methods, gaining information on how students learn and the various learning styles individuals have.

Natural enthusiasm for subject and willingness to want others to learn which tend to be infectious would be difficult to train into people. However, teacher training and all it entails can make people who are interested enough into good and efficient teachers. Having said that, those with a raw aptitude for teaching still have a lot to learn and experience.

Good Luck!

I believe it's a God given talent.

A teacher must have the ability to keep the constant attention of the students.

That requires special skills.

Most students fail to learn when the teacher can't control the situation and let's them get out of hand.

Boring subjects add to the challenge that teachers have.

The conditions within many lower grade schools today is deplorable.

I equate them to holding pens rather than places of learning.

Many teachers today seek employment in areas where the pay is high due to higher real estate taxes, leaving many inner cities with inadequate school systems.

Many schools systems need overhaul, and allowing the private sector to come in and fix this problem is not working as planned.

Better to eliminate all inner city schools and start all over again.

Once a birthright of the American citizen was free education.

Under our economic system as it evolved, that free education isn't worth much.

Many times in our life we become a teacher to someone, and often we are not even aware of it.

And we often learn from others who never even dreamed of becoming a teacher.

I have learned more from people who were not teachers in the sense of school.

Every mother is a teacher. And she becomes a teacher before her first born has taken a breath.
Our babies learn speech patterns and rhythms and many other things while still in the womb.

I would say teachers are born, and everyone of us is a teacher.

Remember, that you never know who you are teaching when.
And be aware of what you teach;o)

Do something nice for a stranger today. And tell them to pass it forward.
Good life to you.

Ideally, a teacher should be knowledgeable in his field, patient, pleasant to the audiences, imaginative in explaining, effective speaking and have a good voice, fair in mind, willing to teach, understand the audiences or student, role model, good in making the class lively and others to make the list longer.

To have all of those attributes, I think a teacher should be born and made. For example, patient and having good voice is to be born.

some have the job and they were made by a test and license. but the true teacher has a genetic component that strengthens resolve and nourishes hearts and minds. they sacrifice their today's in quest of those who will lead tomorrow. it's a little sappy, i know, but I'm getting older and beginning to understand so much more these days.

Both, you must have a natural tendency toward teaching, but you also must study the subjects you teach in depth and create a good teaching method which will interest and involve students.
