Tanning beds aren't so bad if they're done in moderation. Almost nothing is still good for you if you do it too much. The sun has it's benefits...it clears up acne and a lot of other skin problems. When you tan too much, it damages your free radicals, which is what makes you look young. Free radicals can't repair themselves...so ultimately, it makes you look older faster. If you don't do it to excess, it's not a huge deal.

Make sure you use a good lotion afterward. (Cocoa butter or vitamin e lotion...something to replenish your skin...I'm not talking about tanning oil.) I don't advise using tanning oil b/c it could overcook your skin. Don't go to the tanning bed to get in and fry...go just to get some color to your cheeks. Decades ago, people stayed outside a lot more than modern society does. By comparison, even if we were to lay in a tanning bed, we still probably wouldn't get half the sun exposure that our ancestors got.

tanning beds arent the greatest. they can cause skin cancer, give you wrinkles... etc etc. Some nice tanning places have the beds that block out 99% of the harmful rays, and still get you tan. You can also buy good tanning lotions that help block out that harmful stuff, while still getting a nice tan. I have some good lotions I bought that get me really dark, but firm up my skin, and block out the harmful junk from the tanning beds.

yes they can burn your skin,

You are standing or laying in a bed of ultraviolet ultrahot lights. I tan 5 times a week, you should do it is smaller increments of time, as the melanin in your skin darkens, causing you to tan, you gain a resistance to the heat and you can withstand more time before you burn. believe me though if you are at your tanning salon and you ever exceed your amount of time you will in fact burn....

But lets not go overboard and think of Final Destination 3, you are not gonna explode into flame...

I'm 40 years old and have never tanned, I have friends that go often as they can, their skin looks like leather and I look 10 years younger and get more guys that hit on me, because I'm not high maintenance.

this is dangerous. You will get skin cancer if you aren't careful. You might already have the beginnings of it now if you have been going there already on a regular basis.

If you have been going weekly, you should go and get checked by a dermatologist to see if any skin cancer has started yet.
