Well, if you don't already know someone who has a Gmail account & can invite you, try visiting the GMail invite spooler, they had about a million invites to give away last time I checked...

You'll have to be invited by a user of gmail. That is the only way to enter gmail and have an account. Just give me your email address and I'll send an invitation.

To open an account in Gmail you have to be referred by any existing gmail user. Specify your any email id and you’ll get the invitation.
Alternatively, you can also send a mail to my id prodosh.kundu@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to invite you.
