Definately the south island. Its amazing! But if you've got time then get up to the north as well so you can see how diverse it all is.

Back home.

Joking aside, I've been to NZ and its a really beautiful country. If you are into high adrenalin sports, Queenstown is the place to head. Lots of beautiful walks and trails along the west of South Island. Milford Sound is particularly scenic.

If on the North Island, Rotorua was interesting, lots of hot springs, typical Mauri villages and geysers (bit smelly though). Didn't think much of Bay of Islands.

Hope this helps.

New Zealand is big and has much to offer. Depending on your area of interests - big cities or scenery and nature. I toured the country for 10 days, covering the major spots and still there's much to be seen!

I heard the south island was the best or was it the north island. One of those anyway.
