I have a double jointed thumb on my left hand - it sticks straight up instead of curving whn i stick it out (like hitch hike pose). I like to freak people out with it cos it's kind of gross looking. thought it wass just me (maybe slammed in door when i was little or something) but discovered recently that my dad has exactly the same thumb. Weird genetics...

Tish - what if you're planning to wear sandlas? Do you put socks on then take them off again once your pants are on?

Déjà Vu - MY WEIRD THEORY

There are two versions of Déjà Vu. First, you feel that you have been there before – and second, you not only feel that you have been there before – you actually know what’s going to happen next.

Let us first briefly understand how the human brain memorizes incidents and organizes memory.

As you know the human brain maintains 2 kinds of memories there is the short term memory and the long term memory. There actually exists a relationship b/w the 2. Short term memory is gradually and eventually "transitioned" over to the long term memory. That is, it is transferred over to those parts of the brain that store long term memory.

For example when u drive to work every day you may pass a coffee shop on your way. The first time u pass it (day 1) u may remember it maybe up to 5 minutes you see it because your brain pushes it from your "buffer" area to your short term area. The images of the coffee shop are erased from your buffer or “landing memory” every few minutes to accommodate new visuals.

However if you see that shop repeatedly.... there is a part of your brain (that controls your memory) ...that maintains an index of "incidents" or "events" and this part "pushes" it into the long term memory

If u understand this then it will be so easy to understand why I feel that there is NO such thing as a "Déjà Vu".

Déjà Vu, as we all know it or understand it... is a feeling within our minds that even though I KNOW I am seeing it for the first time today....feels like I have seen this before. right?
Actually it turns out that it IS the first time you are seeing it...

Let me explain why.

What just happened when u experienced Déjà Vu was that your brain registered the image DIRECTLY in your long term area ....BEFORE (split second before) OR at the same time it was registered in your short term memory and your brain thinks wait a minute!!! “I remember this!” (it’s already there in my long term). Why is this familiar? Must be Déjà Vu!!!"

The event exists in an orphan state in your long term area as there is NO related index entry to relate it to other events in your long term. That’s why it is vague and u are unable to relate it BUT u KNOW for SURE it’s here and hence are confused. This happens whenever synapses misfire out of sequence, much like a software bug.

Now granted that it could be past life or a parallel universe interference .... are you aware of your consciousness or should e.g. when you say "I’m hungry" or this is MY pen or I am sad or I am happy what is "I" or what is "MY" how did I come into being I know it’s in the brain...the mind... who what is hosting the "I" or "Me"? the soul implements the "I" or “Me” or the feeling of “presence” or “existence”.

So what I am saying is that the "conscious state" or the realization of the conscious state is a coming together of several senses that exist in our brain...or that our brain generates....and conjures in the form of energy patterns for example if we have a spinning disc.... divided in 3 sections each section is a primary color when it is not spinning we see 3 distinct colors however when we spin it we see one white. "I" "Me" "My" the soul my being my existence or REALIZATION of my existence.

It is THIS consciousness that is the time keeper or "pace maker" and creates the virtual illusion of the passage of time virtual I mean because time, or the passage of time exists ONLY and solely in our heads. The universe is timeless and absolute.

This also explains why sometimes “it felt like forever” and why sometimes time just flies by. Time, or the passage of events is a constant. Our brains speeds up or slows down the rate at which it interprets life and stimuli.

So it is possible that our "center" or "consciousness" freezes for those 2 seconds....or passes SLOWER than usual....and even though the event has already occurred....our brain thinks it has not....and then to compensate...it jumps back to the current state and then the illusion is created that "I know what is going to happen next". You know coz it already happened but only part of your brain (the part that registers events and is not linked to a time scale) already saw and is now telling your brain I know what’s next.

I can't stand for my hands to be dirty. I can't put my pants on if I don't have socks on. I have to find something on TV before I can go to sleep. I love Judge Judy. I am afraid of goats. I like ketsup on my pancakes.
