I have lots of tattoos and the best advice I can give you on choosing one is to find something that is unique to your personality. Stay away from what's trendy.
Look, think, look & think some more. If you find something that is reflective of you and your personality, you will always dig it.
I got my first one at 16 and now, 18 years later, i would never choose that same design but I still love it because it is me.
It doesn't mean that your tattoos must be symbolic, some people just like to be illustrated with pictures. It just means you should find a design that suits you personally.

How bout a long snake wrapped around a bleeding skull, and the snake is going in and out of every hole in the skull, even a broken area up top. The snake can also be hissing and ready to strke, and the blood is dripping down off the snake.

I've got 3. A panther on the top of my left arm, a leopard on the top of right armand a dolphin on right shoulder (at back). The dolphin was the most painful but the other two were fine.
If your a bloke a tribal design looks cool.

The best way to find a good tattoo artist is to ask your friends where they got theirs. I know a girl who has a tat on her back, she thinks it looks amazing. My opinion which I kept to myself was that it looked like someone had thrown up color on her back.
If you like one someone has you can get an idea if the style is what you like.
Remember a tattoo is a form of art; The body is the canvas, whoever is giving you the tattoo will have their own style. Do you want Picasso or Renoir creating a permanent masterpiece on you?

Get a real pretty mermaid lying down with her head up and her tail up on your lower back!!! I seen one on the internet and and it was real pretty, I want something like that.
