If you were trying to help a couple of friends sort out their differences, would taking sides do any good? Doesn't it make more sense to try to understand what's really going on and find a solution that works for both of them?

If you're speaking English, chances are good that your government is taking sides in this. That government is *supposed* to represent your interests and your will.

So the 'should' in all of this is that we do our best to understand the full history of any conflict and also to do everything we can to get our governments to act responsibly and wisely.

Why is it not "your war?" That's a rather close minded thing to say. Are you all not part of the human race? Does not the suffering of your own kind make it your war? Is it easier to not think about which side is just and throw you your hands and say "Not my problem?" Bystander apathy? This disconnectedness is one of the things that fuel wars.

Yes, especially if a few fools are intent on terrorizing the world. I'll take sides if it means that the planet is going to be blown up over a few fools fighting for crazy radical causes that don't make any sense.

hmm...

not only would i take a side, but i would supply weapons for one side and have my citizens help pay for the destruction caused by the attacks. Oh and did i mention i would do all this before making sure any of my country's citizens are helped out of the country being attacked. Sound familiar???

When you choose one side, then the other side will necessarily become your enemy.

If it's not your fight, then it's better to stay neutral in order to avoid making enemies.

USA often chooses sides in various conflicts around the world. And this is why USA has so many enemies around the world.

Well yes. You do live on this planet, don't you? If the situation escalates into a world war we could be dragged into it sooner than you realize.

If you believe one side is right, then yes, why not.

Whether to get involved or not is a different issue.
