I'm thinking of buying either a BMW 330xi or an Audi A4 v6. I'm looking for great performance, a good ride, and an all wheel drive.

bmw:
-suppose to have better handling. was fun to drive(I'm not a professional driver, so I couldn't tell the difference between the IS350 and the 330)
-lousy interior
-more expensive compared to the audi
-better gas mileage
-I've tried the auto version and it had a terrible lag until the car rev above ~3000 rpms

audi:
-hated the handling, since i couldn't feel the road
-suppose to be safer
-better interior
-cheaper compared to the bimmer
-i wouldn't buy it cuz it is made by VW and will probably have that lovely VW feature (electrical issues with taillight)
-looks more aggressive
-no low end torque like hondas

The Audi only has a 115bhp engine whereas the BMW has a 150bhp engine, so I'd go BMW even though I'm a huge Audi fan. They both give out 49mpg, so its all down to the drive, and the BMW's power is always going to win. If you could get an A4 with the 2 litre TDi engine, then I'd have no hesitation in recommending it over the BMW - even in its 140bhp state of tune. In my opinion the Audi is a classier car with much less of an image problem.

I have sold BMWs and Audis at different times. If you think BMWs don't have problems, then think again. Audi has a bad rap because Audi owners are extremely well educated, well researched and very demanding of their cars. Hence a minor glitch becomes a reason for complaint. BMW owners in general (not to paint with a broad brush) are clueless, having bought the nameplate blindly. The same is reflected in surveys. BMW owners in general are afraid to speak negatively about their "prize" because it is a status symbol and they don't want to appear disloyal. On the other hand, Audi owners have no qualms about displaying their dissatisfaction. Did you know that almost every first edition Bangle-esque 7 series was replaced in the first year of ownership with a brand new 7 series at no cost to the owner? Of course you didn't because BMW did such an effective job at suppressing that information. All cars have problems. Otherwise why would Lexus (the epitome of reliability) have a full service garage at the dealership? Audi is not trouble free, but it is a superior built, nicer appointed, understated marquee that is always a pleasure to drive. It is also the choice of intellectuals. :)

BMW has a better history than Audi. audis are luxurious Volkswagen. as a German import enthusiast, I'll say get the 330 but you might want to go to vehix.com or edmunds.com to compare if features like leg room and trunk space are important to you. price is also a big factor so do the comparison and also consider cost of maintenance from insurance to repairs as the more advanced the tech like cvt tranee, the more it will cost on repairs especially if you plan on using it past the warranty. beamers have a good warranty program currently, i don't know about audis

In the UK, BMW drivers are regarded as arrogant idiots who generally drive badly. Go with the Audi, its classier. Specs are pretty similar.
