I am terrified of a lot of bugs and today I was in my basement when I spotted a spider walking along the wall right next to me...I screamed out really loud and the spider actually jumped a little like I scared it. I was amazed. Did anyone know that spiders can hear?

Spiders don't have ears, and they don't hear in the
usual sense of the word. What they have is
certain kinds of sensors that are very sensitive to
touch or movements such as air currents. If the
spider was as close to you as you said it probably
detected your breath or vibrations produced by
your movements. A really loud scream might
possibly produce enough air vibration for it to be
picked up, also, but it's less likely than the other
possibilities.

I don't know about spiders, but i've heard that there was a an interesting experiment with fleas.

Once a scientist took a flea put it on the table and said "jump!" - the flea jumped. Then he cut the flea's legs put the it back and said "jump!" - the flea didn't jump.

Scientist's conclusion: "After cutting it's legs, the flea becomes deaf."
