Being Jewish by birth only works if the mother is a Jew. You could raise the child as Jew but that won't change anything. For example, if I raise my son to act like horse it won't make him one. Religion requires acceptance, or by certain birth, to become part of that religion, otherwise you are just doing the practices. Another analogy perhaps would be to be trading stocks. You could have many traders but if you don't work for Company A, even if you act like it, then you don't. The father being Jewish does nothing to the child being Jewish. If two gentiles raise their child to be Jewish, is he Jewish? This case is no different. You either are or aren't Jewish, there is no sort of or being a a blood relative that could change that.

Now don't be offended. No one ever said you had to be Jewish ("you" as in the one posing the question, the "father" spoken of is Jewish regardless if he is Jewish). You could serve God as a gentile, just ask an orthodox rabbi for details how. Why do you want to raise your child as Jewish? How would he react to your not believing in certain things but forcing him to?

I easily have heard of that beforehand once, some time previous contained in the late 70's and it replaced into also the son of someone whose mom and father ought to correctly be categorised as "hippies" ( hardship-free topic right here?). this implies that for those Jewish mom and father, they did not take the commandment, reported as eternal contained in the Torah, to commit their son as a member of the eternal covenant us of a as a extreme legal responsibility. He ought to correctly be a Jew, yet he's not any longer residing Jewishly if he has no longer been circumcised as a member of the covenant human beings, he's largely seen to be estranged from the Jewish human beings ( because the e book of Exodus places it, no estranged one or uncircumcised male is obligated to memorialze the Passover for instance.) he's for sure no longer a education Jew if he did not go by some type of circumcision contained in the period in-between a minimum of on account that he's an man or woman by way of the undeniable fact that is a responsibility of each and every Jewish male. Shalom edit: Oh, and that i forgot to prepare.that I easily have heard of a few cases of Jewish toddlers born in Europe in the course of the years of the Holocaust who were uncircumcised hoping to save their toddlers alive to pass as non Jews. mom and father will undergo determined measures for the lives of their toddlers.

If you convert to Judaism than the baby will be Jew as well, but if you stay in any other religion, baby will not be Jew. As you said it is the mother that counts ;)

I'm not jewish, so i dont really know thier ways. All i can say though is i am christian and i believe that the child will be whatever you all raise it to be. does he want the child to have a jewish background or mixed? I would definatly set down and discuss this with him. Im not saying that mixed religon marriages dont work, but both couples need to get this discussed so that neither one is offended.

If you're not Jewish, the baby won't be Jewish according to some groups.. others yes.

Does it really matter? This kid can convert later on anyway.. a healthy baby is more important than its religion possibly.

Jews from father side are not Jew? What are they? Your question is not specific enough to answer.

Jew as in race? The bible teaches that the race follows the mother. so if you are Gentile or Caninite or whatever, that is what the child will be. (the father isn't always who the husband is)

Are you going to raise her/him Jewish? The baby will be Jewish. No matter what you do, the baby will have Jewish blood. Why does it matter?

It seems like you don't speak much English...but to answer your question, no one is born being a certain religion, it's a choice made by them. If you wanna raise it Jewish, go ahead, if you wanna raise it something else, that's fine, too.
