There might be dust inside. Take off the side panel (carefully) and blow the dust out of there. See if that helps.

You have to wash the filter. Better do it quickly, there is a chance of fire. Unplug everything, unscrew the back panel, you see a grey box? Take that out and drop it into a bucket of water, add some bleach and leave it for about thirty minutes, then reassemble the computer, turn it back on. If it keeps happening you'll need to take it down to the nearest service station and have it rebored. OK?

Sounds like you need to take it to a 'Computer Guy' or into a shop to find out what is the matter. Sure doesn't sound to good to me unless its your key board that does that. If I type to fast for quite awhile, then mine used to smoke and smell, because it got to hot. I burned out 6 keyboards before I found one that was guaranteed.

It's the little indian inside sending smoke signals. Translated, it means; "time to buy 'um new computer"
The dust bunnies are good with a little barbecue sauce, if you overcook 'em though, they tend to be a little tough.

Dear Cindy,
smoke == you need a new computer.
Fry's Electronics sells new ones for about $200.00, including Windows XP Home.
