It is a complex, mechanised and big budget process. For academic interest, pick up a good book on the subject to have plain reading of the things and understand OR join any of the steel making companies to have practical hands on.

Iron ore is heated and melted at different temp we get different qualities like Pig iron etc ,carbon is added to make steel,Mr Laxmi Mittal can explain you better!
