there are all sorts of good companies to invest it - Disney and GE are both currently companies I invest in. If you are looking for a quick turnaround on your money - there is no simple answer for that, but if you want a good company that has consistently put out good results over the years and will continue to do that - then I suggest GE. They pay out a dividend every quarter - usually in the neighborhood of 30 cents a share which is pretty good. It is a solid company - but again, this is a long term investment - not something that you can see appreciate or double your money in just one year.

Well, oil isn't going down anytime soon (read as ever) and the rumor is that Valero will announce good number next week as well.
However you are asking about a one-year timeframe for some reason? It's harder to pick something that you have to stay in for a year.
Someone mentioned SBUX. They are opening a lot of stores in China and, amazingly, still opening more in the US. It sounds reasonable for longer term holding.
How about BA? Boeing is a good 18 months ahead of Airbus now...the order backlog between the two used to be about even but now it is almost 3 to 1 in favor of Boeing.
I'm thinking that GLW is getting close to a bottom. I don't believe the "glut" in LCD TV's will last long..
