It's been a while since I've been to Germany. How do you purchase a round way ticket going from Frankfurt to, let's say, Mannheim. It would be second class. Also would I have to buy a ticket for my one year old daughter?

If you dont speak German, best thing to do is to go in to the counter at the train station marked DB and buy your tickets there. I'm a fairly new resident in Frankfurt myself but if the S-Bahn line runs to Mannheim ( grab a U-Bahn map at the station) then push the button with the flags on it ( Top right) and you can view instructions in English. I'm not 100% sure about a 1 year old, but I buy my 7 year old a ticket just in case. I use the British rule about "having a bum in the seat buy a ticket".
