One of my favorites because it would be impossible to pick just one and it would have to be "Hotel Rwanda" because as an African and being in Africa at the time the genocide was going on and I remember a lot of Rwandans seeking refuge in my country and i remember watching the news as a child and that sticking with me as I got older and when I first saw the preview for the movie I cried because I knew that someone did care and wanted to let the rest of the world know that didn't really know what happened over there, see and feel the emotions and it got people wanting to help and it woke something in me and I want to be a film maker someday and make movies about compassion and humanity. It's a great movie and such moving characters.

Currently, it is "THE GREAT ESCAPE" w/Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, David McCallum...

It is so cool! I love True stories like this because it really happened-if it isn't true it isn't very cool because anyone can just make something up, it isn't amazing, someone just made it all up. But in this, it REALLY happened, people actually did do that! No one had to make it up or anything, it is real! I mean, the characters are mostly composites and the motorcycle part is made up, but otherwise it is totally true!! You should read the book that it is based on (by Paul Brickhill) it's even better than the movie, it's really awesome!

BTW my fav. character is David Mccallum as Ashley-Pitt "Dispersal", although McQueen's part (as Hilts the cooler king) is cool too. I like basicly all the characters alot though, except the Gestapo guys are disturbing.

After reading the answers to this question, I see that most of the people who answered have not seen a movie made before 1995--
So sad...
There is a great Bette Davis movie called Now Voyager that is my all time favorite movie.
Made in 1942, it is about a woman who comes to find herself after spending time in a sanitarium when she has a nervous breakdown.
The breakdown was caused mostly due to the tyrannical mother who had her late in life and dictated her daughters every move in life.
After taking a cruise to South America, Bette finds and develops a relationship with a gentleman. This relationship also helps Bette find out who she really is and helps her decide NOT to live as her mother dictates but as SHE dictates. She eventually finds happiness and peace.
The movie is also known for the famous scene of Paul Henreid lighting 2 cigarettes and giving Bette one. That scene gives me chills each time I see it.
Check out the movie. You will be VERY glad you did.

uuummm I 'm gunna say Spaceballs. Cuz it's just so hilarious. it mocks so many different movies. I think I had to watch it at least three times before I caught the joke about how Lone Star wuz born in the Ford Galaxy lol. It gets better every time. But I think that's the same reason I like Robin Hood Men in Tights, that comes to a close second. ;)

princess bride. Its my all time favorite because 1) its a mell brooks movie and therefore is halarious 2) I've seen it so many times since I was little I can and have recited all the words lol in another room. I basically grew up with it 3) its still a love story for the hopeless romantic.

Amelie, because in a way it's a fairy tale story for adult women. Amelie in many ways is like how many girls are inside, dreaming, and not wanting to wake up from a dream. It reflects also how women think and how they act. My favorite part is when she finds the box of an old man when he was young and she secretly gives the man the box. More so, it reflects on the theme of existentialism with both Buber and Camus, where we are all connected, and actions do get repaid, and also the perspectivism of each one of the characters reflecting one another in a single moment. I liked it because in many ways it reflects the dreamlike quality and warm hearted qualities most individuals carry. I highly recommend it to anyone, but moreso women.

Shorshang Redemption ( sorry if i spell the movie wrong )

I think it 's the best movie with a twist also the friends relationship between the main character and his friend was impressive
And i liked the main character's personality , he looked like a normal man but inside he's very genius

Hmm its a draw

10 Things I Hate about You
Why: Because I can relate to it. I have struggled with parental control always and still do, plus its funny and I never get bored of it. Also, it has some great tunes. :D

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Why: Because its one of those "out of there" films. It really makes you think during the course of the movie.

I'd have to say "The Elephant Man", the story of Joseph Merrick (although his name is John in the movie), who is severely deformed, and struggles to be accepted for who he is, despite looking like a freak of nature.

I found in the movie that John Merrick was more "human" than some of the people in there, considering how badly they treated him.

And finally, they play "Adagio for Strings" at the end, one of the saddest pieces of music I have ever heard.
