I improved in chess rapidly by studying it. Chess can be divided in opening, middlegame and end game. Each phase has a special way in which you play and must be studied separately. I proposed the book " Winning chess" by Irvine Chenev for the middlegame. It is a tactics book and will make you familiar with common patterns and themes. Good luck!

First rule, most importantly, learn to enjoy chess. Feel the pleasure of using your mind. Enjoy formulating plans and seeing it through, adapting to your opponent's countermeasures as you execute your plan. Enjoy calculating the myriad tactical variations, trying to see further then your opponent.

2nd learnt to accept defeats. Everyone loses, even world champions. More importantly, analyse why you lost. Did you fall into an opening trap? Got lost in the middle game? Or did you lose patience in the end game?

You can also:
Learn chess theory through books.
Study the games of the masters.
Play more games (prefer ppl of similar skill level as yours. More fun that way).

Remember to learn to enjoy the game. When it stops being fun, then stop.

my friend's father teaches chess n he tought me various tricks

Do not follow the rules and do not calculate moves like a computer. Just follow your fantasy and lead your opponent also into it - that's how you win a game! You should practice a lot of course and have some theoretical knowledge, but to be bound only on them means to be blind. Enjoy and you'll defeat anyone.
