I've heard that scientists are making strides towards the day when we may be able to determine important parts of our children's appearence and personalities, such as height, body type, temperament and intelligence, before they are even born. If you had the option to cusomize your baby, would you? If so, how? And what do you think are the social implications of such technology?

My opinion is to keep it natural. Toying w/ this kind of stuff can lead to unstable things e.g.
Rich people will engineer smart athletic kids, while poor people will be at the mercy of the "super" kids

We don't know the consequences of this action. What if we end up selecting for psychosis? The fact that less than 30,000 genes regulate EVERYTHING in our biology and environment plays a role in our looks AND behavior, messing with DNA could lead to a "whoops, we didn't know it worked like that"

Morally (not that i'm moral to begin w/ but some people are) this is getting close to "playing God" (yet all science is getting close to playing God) Is it right to be able to customize a human like you would customize your car? or house?

I think people would do some stupid sh*, like making their kids eyes match their car, or 'puter, or stuff like that.

In the end it wouldn't be fair, unless EVERYONE had EQUAL access to it despite income or geography. It (might) be immoral as we are making people as WE intended and not as God intended. And politically other countries w/o this "technology" would be at the mercy of "super" soldiers of countries WITH the "technology"

I think it's un-natural! Not the way GOD intended. GOD did not make this a perfect world, So Why does man think they have to try? What joy do you get out of it already knowing what to expect. If you want a custom baby then people should adopt their are so many un-wanted children begging for a loving home in this world. WHY?

have you seen the movie 'gatacca?' its really good, and the sort of theme thing is about genetic engineering. i really reccomend it.

anyway, to answer your question..i would keep them natural...i want to be surprised..whats the point of life if you know extactly how they are before they are born? theres nothing to learn from them..i think it would be boring.

No i wouldn't, people are trying to play god as they "create a baby". If they are soo worried that they will not like they baby or it will not be just like they want it, thoes people just dont need to have kids yet.
