1. Cycle has never adjusted to it's own schedule
A. If it has, doesn't mean it will always.
B. Can have a regular on day schedule cycle and then you can miss a period for two months while never risking pregnancy/sexually active. Wonders of being a female....

2. Stress: Death in the family, school work, work, relationship problems, pressure from family or friends, depressed.

3. Working out: Athlete/sports, un-schedule working out habits.

4. Being over weight or being too under weight.

5. Eating habits have shown too.

6. Drugs

7. Medical reasoning's/ovaries/uterus that need to be address to doctor. From scaring to cysts are common more lately now.

8. Birth control: Because have it on the first in-active pill doesn't declare it will be like that the next month. A girl can start on the third day instead.

9. Medications: Heart, liver, kidney and the list goes on can have alterations, including period.

Some I have learned over the years.

p.s.

You said that you never had sex. However, pregnancy isnt out of the picture if you are sexually active. Sexually active includes oral, fingering etc. Not just intercourse. If the male's sperm came in contact to your vaginal, yes at risk. High or low is un-determined.

If you are 10 days late. You are stressing and worring. That can be a good 75% of the reasoning right there.

Any hormonal change will make your period real early or real late. But yeah, no sex no pregnancy. If you've been under a great deal of stress that will also cause problems - early, late, overly heavy, extra light. If you've not had your period for very long it could be normal irregularities. First few periods can be very very erractic while your body is adjusting to the change in your homonal balance.

STRESS!!! This is a big factor. A poor diet can also cause a delay in your period. But foremost you should seek a professional to make sure there isn't anything serious going on in there. You should consult a gynocologist asap. That is one area you shouldn't mess around with.

PMS, or you could just be late on starting this month. Its pretty common in some women ang young girls. Its perfectly normal. If you dont have your next period in the next month or so, I would check with your doctor or OBGYN. dont worry, youll be fine :)
