a new artificial adhesive has just been developed which mimics the adhesive properties of the gecko, harnessing the van der waals forces, which has to do with the attraction of electrical charges between molecules:
but the gecko still does better than any artificial adhesive.
can't beat nature.

That stuff on gecko feet. At least in the naturally occuring scope. As for man-made stuff, it's probably dental cement.

recently a program on tv reported it as being that stuff snails use to stick themselves to rocks on beaches. Incredibly strong and incredibly expensive to manufacture.
