I heard you can clean your mouse's ball. The mouse is getting awfully jumpy around me lately,do you think I should clean it's ball; and if so how?

Generally it's not the ball but the rollers inside the mouse that get gunked up. Here's how to clean it:

if you look at the bottom of your mouse you will see a plastic circle around the hole the mouse ball is in.

genty press down on this and turn 90 degrees, it should move with a minimum of effort. If you have to force it you're probably turning it the wrong way, check for an arrow. This plate should come off the bottom of the mouse, freeing your mouse ball. Place it and the mouse ball to one side for now.

Once you have the roller cover off and the roller out, take a look in the space the roller normally occupies. You should see three rollers, two long skinny ones at right angles, and a third sitting at an angle. If you look at the two skinny rollers, you may note a buildup of grey or black somewhat shiny material. This is what needs to be removed.

The best strategy I've come up with is to gently scrape this crud off the rollers with the tip of a pen or whatever's handy, making sure to get the chunks that fall off out of the mouse. For best results follow up by cleaning these rollers with a q-tip that's been slightly moistened with alcohol. This should help to remove the greasy residue the rollers have picked up.

Once you're done with this put the ball back in the mouse, then put the cover back in and turn it back to it's original position. You should be good to go.

One thing to consider though, optical mice are fairly cheap these days and don't suffer from these problems. As a permanent solution you may consider purchasing one.

Good luck.

Yes you can clean the ball, it's the rollers you have to look at too. There should be a plate covering the ball enclosure that rotates to unlock. take the ball out and wash it to get the oils off. Clean the rollers get some tweezers to pick the lint off. make sure no pieces left inside the mouse case. Replace the ball and cover. Get an optical soon as Ball mice are a hassle and you never have to clean an optical mouse. Good luck!

remove the cover by twisting it off to the left. Then you can use a compressed air computer cleaning bottle and blow into the mouse (after removing the ball) and/or wipe the ball with a damp cloth. Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back in the mouse.

Instead of cleaning the ball, better clean also the side, top roll bar. This is because you will found some dirt in the middle of the bar. If posibble, screw off and clean the mouse totally.

just flip it over and twist the ring around the ball. After the ball falls out, clean it and the little rollers up inside the mouse. Then replace the ball and ring and twist ring to lock :-)

Simple.

Sure why not justremove it from the mouse (i think you can figure out how) manufacturers design its cover so that it can be easily removed so you can clean it

So once you've popped it out, you can wet it with some alchohol then just wipe it out with a towel, idont suggest you use tissue coz the fibers might stick on it.

And once you're done replace it back in and you're ready to use it again
