Any electronic product will be outdated in the market within 6 months, but if it does the job you want it to do it won't be out dated for you.
If people worried about products being out dated, nobody would buy any eletronics.
As far as your phone contract is concerned, wait for the year to pass and there will be a better phone on the market.

Sounds to me like you have Verizon Wireless, I'd say skip the Razr and shoot for the Motorola v710 or e815, they have expandable memory and a flash on the camera, as well as bluetooth and a dictionary of other features.

Just as with computers.. the day you buy it, the very next day it will be outdated and a better one will be out..
So yes.. that phone is probably already out dated..

The razor isn't the greatest phone in the world, but it's been around for years now and it still keeps on coming back. In a year it will still be cool. In three probably will start to lose its shinynes.

Yes. I suggest you wait if you want a motorola phone.
The new KRZR, RIZR, and MOTOPHONE have just been announced a few days ago, and probably should be starting to ship in the next several months.
