make it as elaborate as you want and whether it's opinion or fact doesn't matter to me this is sort of an open ended question no right or wrong answer

I agree that america has made very good games but we're just not getting too much done on terms of new blood however you wanna put it into these games unreal has so many games it even made it as a game for the x box but we're not seeing enough original titles mostly mech suites or games were you can say "hey they look like the flood from halo" while playing half life so when you talk about the good engines also look at the fact that most of those games whether they were made better or not are made from previous ideas and we just need to come up with something original and fresh not another unreal game or half life game a good solid game that people can really say "nobody can top that" because nobody can doubt that despite japans lack of good games the new WTF that's supposed to be coming out is wild and original and cannot be derived from another game you're played on another console so for future answers please consider past games then look to today.

No, I believe BioWare is an American company (I'm not sure though). They make fantastic games- Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Too Human, just to name a few. We can't stop because competition drives companies to make better games. But I do agree with the fact that Japan is THE best when it comes to video games. Actually, anything electronic.

I'm wondering where the lack of talent part came from....

Most good games I think of aren't made in Japan.

I decided I would actually post a short list of the most recent Non-Japanese Highly rated games:

Prey
Half-Life 2
Doom 3
Oblivion

Not to mention that the Doom 3 engine and Valve engine Unreal engine and Jupiter (Lithtech) engines are the industries best and latest game engines (I know they are all FPS engines).

Plus we gear out the leading MMORPGs, some of the leading RPGs, a ton of strategy games, and have the huge history of revolutionary game design.

So, unless we are talking about a quick Mario game or a substandard Pokemon game, ummm.. Japan isn't leading in the game department.

Consoles and technology are another subject though.

No, and I'm resisting the urge to flame you for stupidity.

But do bear in mind that the United States/North America and Japan have significantly different games that are released to the public.

This is because of pop culture differences and differences in our inherent values.

what lack? if anything, japanese game developers have become dependant on the same tired formula on many games. even Hideo Kojima admits that he tells his staff to look towards americans in terms of development and tech stuff. i dont think the japanese are quite as good as they used to be.
