My little girl is 4 months old, and she had this problem a couple of times. This is what the doctor told me to do...first he said it's because her nose is a little clogged, that the tears that are normally produced can't be drained through her throat, so there is an excess in the eye.
Boil some chamomile tea, in a tea bag. when it comes to a rolling boil, squeeze and remove the bag, so the tea keeps boiling by itself. While still boiling, throw in two or three cotton balls (or regular cotton rolled up in a ball) and let them boil in the chamomile for about 5 minutes. This is to sterilize the cotton. When it's done, let it cool down (i would drain the chamomile and put the soaked cotton balls in a glass w/aluminum foil over it into the fridge to speed up the process) and use the cotton balls to gently clean his eye (even both of them, why not). Kinda press down lightly on his eye too, so a couple of drops of the chamomile get in there...but very little. it won't hurt him, and i even let a couple drops in her mouth, a whole new taste!
it reallyworked, but you have to do it for a couple of days. i cleaned her eyes like that two or three times a day for three days and it went away without coming back.
I know it sounds strange, in America i had never heard that being used, but I live in Italy and it was the pediatrician that told me to use chamomile. they even suggest to give a fussy baby a little bit at night to help sleep, or a constipated baby to help poop. Good luck!

My daughter used to have this every time she got a cold. The doctor kept prescribing eye-drops for infection. Eventually I stopped getting them as it would clear up of it's own accord as her cold went.
If the discharge is so much that his eye lids are stuck together then I'd go to the dr to get it checked. If it's only a little, wipe the eye with some saline/salt water and mention to your health visitor next time you see them.

it could be that his tear ducts are closed. A visit to the doctor will answer this question for you. Or it could be something as simple as allergies. See his doctor about the problem. Until then use a warm cloth to wipe out the eye and it will give some relief as well

If he's a newborn it may just be a clogged tear duct. My doctor told me to gently rub his tear duct with a moist clean wash cloth. You do want to take him to the doctor though to make sure it's not infected. He'll need antibiotic eyedrops if that is the case. If it's an infection it should clear up within 2 days of taking the medicine.

If it's just a little bit once in a while, then mention it to your doctor at the next visit, but it's probably not serious. Some babies just have gunkier eyes than others. If it's more than occasionally or a lot, call the doctor and ask. She/he will tell you if you need an office visit or not.

My son's real father abandoned me in the previous my son became even born .. and that i do no longer actually have a photo of him so my son does not even understand what his father sounds like. My son is two decades outdated now and is his first baby (additionally a son) is due any day. My mothers and fathers the two stepped in an took particularly solid care of my son so for the main area, i think of he became ok without real father. each subject is distinctive although. For me, i'd attempt to talk to a baby psychologist and ask for his or her help on the thank you to recent this on your son. Have some solutions handy while he starts off to invite questions. perform a little "what if" circumstances .. what if the Dad comes around and that they start to bond and then he will become a deadbeat and takes to the air returned .. then what's going to the baby sense, think of and do? would that's greater efficient or risky to attend until he's older? My son did no longer start to invite some questions until he became approximately 5 ... and then it became only, the place is my Dad? What did he appear like? the place did you meet him? I under no circumstances lied to him .. I replied his inquiries to the better of my means .. and while he became happy .. he needed to play Monopoly... it became no massive deal! He asked a pair of alternative questions with reference to the 2d or third grade .. yet while he became 18 I gave him some issues that his real Dad had given me and he have been given offended. He informed me that his real father became Jesus Christ and that became the only father he ever mandatory. i became happy that he became to Jesus .. yet unhappy on an identical time that he did no longer choose to talk approximately issues. i'm SO happy that he's now married, interior the Air stress and it sticking around for his very own son. solid success to you! i would be praying for you and your son.

It could be a clogged tear duct. Does your baby wake up in the morning with a crusty eye?
When referring to infection, yellow generally refers to viral, while green refers to bacterial. (Same goes for phlegm).
Either one of these requires a trip to the child's pediatrician's office. A clogged tear duct doesn't require antibiotics, but if this is what your son has, your pediatrician can show you how to massage his tear duct.

It could be an infection. Take him to his doctor before it ends up being something that can threaten his eyesight.
