Israel striked Lebanon supposedly because Hezbollah killed 8 (or 6?) Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2. Hezbollah hoped that the kidnap of 2 soldiers may enable a prisoner swap.

First Lebanon is not Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a militia group that occupies Lebanons border with Israel. Israel had two soldiers kidnapped by the Hezzbolah and when they retaliated in searching for these soldiers the Hezzbolah started firing rockets into the civilian areas of Israel. This caused Israel to take a massive invasion of the Lebanonese area controlled by Hezbollah.

Because Israel does not appreciate having terrorists invade, kill soldiers and kidnap others for the express purpose of holding them for ransom. They also have a dislike of having random rockets raining down on civilian targets.

Also, Lebanon has failed to obey UN Resolutions that require it to move its regular army into the border area and disarm Hezbollah. Lebanon has also refused to accept the UN Resolution that found that Israel had withdrawn from all Lebanese soil.

Instead of disarming Hezbollah, Lebanon has made Hezbollah part of the government.

Well, first, Israel actually created hezbollah by disbanding the PLO many years ago. Hezbollah formed in its absence. Second, Israel enjoys throwing its weight around--they are a large reason why the Middle East isn't fond of the U.S, because we not only fund Israel, we give them high-quality weapons which many countries over there don't have. Israel is merely displaying power, like we did in Iraq (the destruction they've caused is in no way justified by the Israeli soldiers who were taken hostage--they've killed hundreds of civilians at this point). Furthermore, if you'd like to speculate, Syria will defend Lebanon. Iran will defend Syria. We will defend Israel. This will give plenty of excuses for the U.S. to invade Iran, as Bush has been eagerly awaiting for quite a while now.
