Please share your vision of what we might see in 5 years or so. Refrain from machines that are 20+ years out like food replicators. I'm thinking of investing a few thousand $ in a company that is actually working in this field, but I am interested in what you imagine around the bend as well.

I may not be much help, as I'm looking into the same info to invest as well.

This one's more of a chemical reaction than nano ...still trying to find info on a company that sprays a paint/ink like film on certain surfaces and the surface can take an electric charge and change from black to white. The surface can show black and white images for advertising (as a video) - another similar one is for solar return - can charge batteries using the substance.

Sorry - I was a bit off topic - I'll be monitoring your other answers though. If I come up with the company names in the near future I'll add them.

Good hunting.

Pxn is the symbol for an ETF that specializes in nano technology. Go to http://www.powershares.com/pxnfund.asp
Then click on ‘holdings’ to see what companies are in the fund. You can then research each company to see which ones you like or just invest in the fund. It should probably be considered a long term investment.
