Chiropractor is the best way. Get a massage first and then an adjustment. It will feel great.

Hi,
Not knowing what is causing your back pain, I can only give you some suggestions from my experience working in the field of Physical Therapy. As soon as my back begins to ache, I am on the floor, stretching.
If your pain is caused by muscle spasm, heat is a good relaxer for the deep muscles of the spine. If the pain is caused from over-work, that is causing irritation and swelling, I would suggest ice packs.. Even a bag of peas wrapped in a towel, if you don't happen to have an Ice Pack. Swelling can cause pressure on nerves.
Carrying a wallet in your pocket can cause uneven hip pressure.
If you lay on your back, just bring one knee up to your chest at a time in the beginning. Also, think of strengthening your anterior spine muscles, as well as your back muscles. This can be done by doing mild crunches, or just pelvic tilts. Don't bounce when you stretch. Just reach the point of resistance, and then back off a touch.

Find a good stretching book, and use it.
Anti-inflamatories are useful in keeping the swelling down, however they can cause irritation in the stomach and bowels.
If you drive a lot, bring your seat forward so that both legs are equal in length.

When sleeping on your back, use a pillow under your knees to take the stress off of the lower back, and when on your side, use a pillow between your legs. When standing, be mindful of your stance. Don't lock your knees. If you have a sitting job, stand up every half hour, walk around every hour.
O.K. The rest, your Doc can tell you if you don't get relief from my suggestions. Heres to a healthy back.

Try better posture and change the chair you're normally sitting on for work...if you do manual labor for work like construction or something, try a lifting belt
