Join a Drama Class or Club. When you join a Drama class, you will be able to read all kinds of scripts and plays and broaden your horizons with different characters, while at the same time receiving constructive criticism from your fellow peers. As soon as you get the script, read it aloud or in your head with no intention or feeling, just blah blah. After that take a pencil, I say pencil because you will be doing a lot of erasing. Analyze the play as it self, analyze the characters. Look at each line and decipher what it is that your characters wants. You should have an intention, a GOAl for what your character is saying.(Think about real life, believe it or not, everyone has an intention for what they are saying and why they say it) Next to each line, write down your intention, and below it write down some tactics. For example, if your main goal it to seduce, then you could write down tactics, such as, flirt, tantalize, persuade, turn on. I cannot stress how important it is to have an intention, if you do not have an an intention then you have NO real reason why your character is saying the lines they are saying. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but there is a huge comparison between actors who act with "feeling" and actors who act with "feeling/emotion". If you think about it, anyone who can show feeling/emotion can be an actor, there is no talent in being able to make yourself cry or look happy, or sad.. Hell, everyone would be on Broadway if that were the case. The true talent is going beyond emotion and finding your characters true intention and discovering tactis to the script.
Gooluck! =) I hope this really helped you.

Stop acting - - - simply Be - - - a lot of actors trip themselves up by Acting - - most acting is reaction & simply spewing the words the writer has provided. Study your characters, create a bio, become that person. Reading aloud in front of a mirror is an old stand-bye. One old timer, decades before your birth, he would sit surrounded by mirrors declaiming Shakespere. In this modern age you can film yourself and then analyze what you have done. Ultimately it is about having fun, viewig acting as fun, even when you are waist deep in cow dung and it is forty below zero and you are throwing words at Clint Eastwood under his direction. Good Luck.

As odd as it sounds, practice monolouges in several different emotions- be angry, content, apathetic.. get a feel for controlling people's reactions to what you're saying. Read at least twice as much as you act. Personally, I love the work of Christopher Durang- give a good read to Laughing Wild, there's a few good monolouges for both males and females. Remember that the audience WANTS you to succeed- they want to be enterteined- so you have nothing to worry about. And if you are serious about it, get headshots from a professional photographer (quality headshots can run you $700) and an agent.

Study acting. I would recommend the Meisner technique, if there is someone near you who is acquainted with this method.
Several people have recommended practicing in front of a mirror. I would not suggest this. It tends to result in self-involvment. Acting is always about the other guy.

Go to a bunch of auditions - even if you know you won't get a part. Watching others audition and getting experience of auditioning in front of others helps A LOT.

Experience is the best teacher - watch the actors you most admire and then talk with them about their method.
