The same reason the "highlight" of Hallie Berry's career was when she got an Oscar for getting done up by Billy Bob T. Also Denzel Washington getting an Oscar for Training Day for playing a crooked cop rather than the portrayal of a strong black leader as in the Malcolm X documentary he did years ago. (Which he did much better in might I add.)

I think a lot of it has to do with the most famous and visible Black Celebrities perpetuating a negative image i.e. Gangsta, Pimp, etc. The cross over to mainstream Hollywood is a little more difficult when the last thing you did was sing a song about smakin that bitches *** an all the money you make pimpin that ho.
Another thing that contributes to "whitewash" is the tight knit group that runs a majority of the business in Hollywood. I don't think it's racially motivated as much as it's a tough club for anyone to get in. There are simply more white and mixed people who try to act and the odds go way in favor of the majority.
Denzel, Morgan Freeman, etc are some dark brothers but they have the ability to play a wide range of characters because of their talent not shade.
Keep your pimp hand strong.

Get off the damn soapbox already and take that damn chip off your shoulder. I'm so sick of people playing the damn Race Card. This is not the 1800's. Black people have been dominating sports for decades, and now they dominate entertainment aswell. I use to listen to rock music, but it all sucks now so I've been listening mostly to rap since 2000. None of the celebrities are complaining, ask Beyonce and Mariah why they dye their damn hair. They'd look just as good with dark black hair. Crybaby! Sorry *** conspiracy theory. It's not about black or white anymore so just leave it alone, stop beating a dead horse!

I'm going to guess that way they can appeal do both black and white audiences, thus making more money for the movie/music production companies.. While a black man might go to see a movie with Halle Berry, a white woman may go to watch it for her white co star.

you know i've been asking myself the same question. beyonce looks like she's trying to BLEND IN - how odd is that??? i personally think that there are so many AWESOME black entertainers - just think Denzel Washington, Taye Diggs, Cuba Gooding Jr - not to mention a rich tradition of fantastic jazz musicians. I don't know what's going on there, but if you notice - Hollywood seems to do weird things to people, like the ever-shrinking waistline!

Because 18-24 year old white males make up the majority of the money spending public and that is their main target market.

Good question.
As long as people keep supporting it, it will keep perpetuating. Don't watch it, don't pay attention to it. Support the culture and music that supports the lifestyle that you want to see in the world. The more people that support the underground, the less "under"ground it will be. Also, supporting groups, movies, and music that supports your culture and lifestyle, the more you will see that that hollywood BS doesn't matter.

Because of who runs the inside of Hollywood. It will take another 300 years to change this, by then we will not be here, and everyone will all look the same. A mix of everyone on earth.

you need to grow up and see people for people and not their color. i cant because i am a rasist which exlains my actions but does not excuse them, at least i can recognize that. you are in denial. i know you dont like white peole considering how much of a big deal this is to you. why does something have to be BLACK or WHITE, why cant it be just as it is. do u feel so insecure about the blacks that you make it your goal to try to make them equal with everything. that is one of the many reasons i am a racist and if you report me it just proves that i am right and that u are insecure of your race. reporting me or deleting me will make the words disappear but it not erase the message i just gave to you.

its hollywoods way of saying see we don't stereotype.when the truth is the ,media has most black children brainwashed into believing their only path to success is athletics, entertainment or crime.look at the role models they promote for black youths.where are the doctors, lawyers, engineers, politicians.they also say all white women are saints or whores, white men are amoral and devoid of conscience.hispanics are doing the best they can bless their hearts, here's a pat on the head.the "liberal"media isn't trying to enlighten they're trying to divide and control.make your kids read, limit the influence of tv.encourage them to have diversity in their choice of friends.we need to stop media's influence, its dividing us.it's subtle and insidious.
