I'm 17 and am trying to decide between an almost new, but used, 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser (Touring Edition) with 12,000 miles or a 2000 Honda CR-V LX with 70,000 miles. The PT is really really nice inside, low miles and practically new but I was kind of planning on having an SUV like the CR-V that is raised off the ground to get over obstacles (and Honda's usually last a long time), however the CR-V has a lot more miles... This will be my first car (I have been driving my mom's old minivan :) ) and I will be keeping it for 4-5 years through college. Which one do you think would be better?

Tough call: the PT Cruiser has more space to pack stuff in than the Honda. The Honda CR-V isn't as off-road tough as.....say....a Jeep, but it can go over more road obstacles like low floodwater and the like.

You're on the right track knowing Honda's do last longer: anyone traveling down established commuter roadways can see that.

I'd say do some more detective work on a gas mileage per gallon comparison between the PT and the CR-V. With no sight of falling per gallon gas prices, the one with the highest miles per gallon would get my vote on which one to buy.

Dude, the Honda by far, people ask me all the time what to buy just to get around, Honda cars, Toyota trucks. I really hate to say this but its true. Do take your time buying any car, and before you do buy, take it to someone you trust and have them check it out. Stay away from the pt.

If you want a US car, then Chevy mid size. If you want a hot rod, than Chrysler. I am not sure what Fords are for, well they make me a lot of money, so they are good for one thing! See a Dave

Partially depends on where you live and what the climate is like. If you were basing on manufacturer reputation, I would certainly go with the Honda. I have heard that the PT Cruiser doesn't have very high safety ratings, and being that you are a new driver, that might not be a good combo. Good luck, and safe driving!

I like CR-V. it's not how many miles that the car can run but how you feel comfortable when you use it.
