I wish I could help you, but without knowing anything about your situation I can't.

Why do you think that you are pregnant? How long have you feared that you are pregnant?

Have you tried a drug-store over-the-counter pregnancy test? They give a lot of false positives (well, it depends on the brand) but not very many false negatives, so you might really want to try one. Or else, if you see your family doctor (or any walk-in clinic) there are two simple tests that can be performed, one of which is a urine test (like the over-the-counter drug store products) and one of which is a lot more accurate, but requires the technician to draw a sample of blood. A lot of larger towns and cities have free walk-in clinics aimed at young people with just this sort of problem.

In the mean time, you might want to look at this website http://www.askdramy.com/quiz.html ; it's an on-line rundown of pregnancy symptoms and "risk factors" that might at least calm you down a little bit.

First question is did you engage in sexual practices?
You can buy a pregnacy kit at any drugstore --they are pretty accurate.

I suggest even though it's very hard subject, talk with one of your parents or if you feel you can't talk to them about this yet, if you have an older brother or sister talk to them. You can also call a clinic to see if you can get tested for free -check to see if they would notifiy your parents that you wanted testing.Since you didn't say how old you were, it's hard to say what state regulations may be on the testing and notification.

Be very careful. Besides getting pregnant --there are many other diseases to be worried about aids, gonorrhea and other STD's.
If you're going to have sex --take precautions -- have your partner use condoms or don't have sex!!

And when I read your note, I thought this person is young, if you're a teenager, how old is your partner? If they're over 18 -they could get in trouble depending on the state and or if your parents wanted to press charges.

My advice is if you're younger is to wait until you're older and can know the consequeces of your actions and can afford to raise a child on your own if you did get pregnant. Having a baby is a huge responsibility.

Okay, love. First things first. Take a deep breath. This is not the end of the world.

Now. I assume since you're asking this question, you have reason to suspect that you're pregnant already. If you've had unprotected sexual intercourse within the last 24 to 72 hours, or if the condom broke, it is Not Too Late to get emergency contraception. You can go to your local planned parenthood or ER to do so. If this is a case of rape or sexual abuse, go to the ER immediately.

The first indication most women have that they're pregnant is missing their menstrual period. However, some women continue to spot bleed throughout pregnancy. Depending on your age, though, your periods may not be entirely regular. So if you're just a few days late, relax. It may come. Stress can delay your period, so that could be a factor. If you're more than a week late, let's look for other signs of pregnancy.

If you are pregnant, you may have some breast swelling or tenderness. However, this can also be a premenstrual symptom too. Generally breast tenderness during pregnancy is MUCH more severe than premenstrual breast tenderness.

Additionally, if you are pregnant, you may be experiencing a general "ill" feeling - like you're running a fever, have a headache, or are slightly to severely nauseated. (Morning sickness is a misnomer, as it can occur at any time) However, these could also be signs of general infection or an STD.

If you have reason to suspect that you are pregnant, and are at least 5 days late for your period, you should take an over the counter home pregnancy test. Look for one that says "early response" as these detect the lowest levels of hGh (human growth hormone - the "pregnancy" hormone). Follow the package instructions exactly. If it turns up positive, wait a day. The next morning, take a second pregnancy test (pregnancy tests usually come two to a package). If the second one turns up positive as well, it's time to talk to your parents/talk to the person you had sexual intercourse with, call your doctor or set up an appointment with your local planned parenthood. They will do an in-office pregnancy test that is more accurate than your home pregnancy tests.

If your home pregnancy test shows "negative", wait a day and retest. If they're both negative, sit back and wait a week. If your period is still late, take another home test, following the same directions. If they're both still negative, give your period another week, and if it's still MIA, call your doctor or local planned parenthood. It may be perfectly normal, but you could also have something else going on (an STD, etc.)

If you are pregnant, know your options. 1) Raising the child yourself. 2) Giving the child up for adoption. 3) Abortion. There is NO easy choice. Believe me, love, I know. There ARE resources to help pay for prenatal care and cost of labor and deliver, as well as help with preliminary baby care costs. If this is an option you want to pursue, you can call 1-800-BABY-DUE for more information. They are also good people to talk to, although, be aware, this is a pro-life phone line. Adoption is also a valid option, with your choices being open (where you will still have contact with the baby) or closed (where you will not be involved in the child's life) adoption. Your local pregnancy crisis center can put you in contact with such orginizations (or look up "Abortion Alternatives") in the phone book. Abortion is a difficult choice. I know people would have you believe that this is the "easy" way out, but trust me, there is nothing "easy" about this choice. Early-term abortion is least expensive and safest for you. Up to 72 days gestation, you can opt to take the "abortion pill", which causes your body to miscarry. Although it has a more "natural" appeal than surgical abortion, it is a VERY rough experience to go through, and you have to deal with prolonged bleeding, etc. Up to 11 weeks, you can have a dialation and aspiration abortion, which uses suction to remove the pregnancy. Do NOT attempt a home abortion. PERIOD. This is dangerous and stupid - you are just as likely to kill yourself as you are anything else. If abortion is the option you want to pursue, contact your local planned parenthood. Or go to www.plannedparenthood.org for the nearest location.

Pregnancy scares are a horrible thing to go through. Believe me love, I know. Please be safe and sensible. Also, no matter what the outcome, I would reccomend getting on some form of birth control - be it pills, the patch, or the nuva-ring. Also, make SURE that you ALWAYS use condoms (to protect against STDs as much as pregnancy) AND a spermicidal lubricant. Put a condom on him as SOON as the clothes come off. Be safe. Protect yourself.

I am sorry that this is an experience you're having to go through. Know that as someone who has had to endure similar circumstances, I feel deeply for you. You have my sympathy and support.
