Yes you can believe me Im a mother of two girls, give the baby cereal in the bottle mixed with the formula or if you breast feed, he will be very full which is good dont worry, so he might feed a little longer in between and sleep a little longer. But don't make it thick, make sure you shake it and them test it to make sure it comes out easily so he wont get fussy, also don't always give it to him regular, it could make him constipated, just first once a day then within the next week add twice a day you can tell if he is ready to move on

Don't give your baby cereal in the bottle. It's not necessary and it's not recommended by pediatricians. If he won't take it from a spoon then he's just not ready to eat solid foods. Wait another month and try again.

The point of feeding cereal is to get the baby used to eating regular foods and help them learn how to use their mouth for eating and chewing. Putting the cereal in the bottle defeats the purpose.

Personally, I prefer the whole spoon method. My baby's pediatrician okad her for a tablespoon of rice cereal when she was 2 and a half months once a day. Of course she didn't take it from the spoon the first try so we just did it everyday until she got the hang of it. She turned 4 months today and loves her cereal and takes it willingly from the spoon...she rushes me lol...and when I take the spoon from her mouth she smacks while swallowing it. Just keep trying he'll get the hang of it...it took ma baby like 3 to 5 weeks. Make sure you follow the directions on the box cause if its too think he will get constipated. Good luck...also try it with the spoon first and then when he begins to become uninterested just pour it in his bottle that way it doesn't go to waste. I do this with my baby when she becomes impatient and starts to fuss cause she's really really hungry and I'm moving too slow.

No don't feed a child cereal in a bottle the whole idea of a spoon and bowl is to develop proper mouth movement and textures

4 months you only give rice cereal to start and keep making in different textures as you increase the amount and as the child develops motor control it's part of development

My sons' pediatrician said never to give a baby cereal in his bottle. If he's not ready for it, just wait a month and try again. Not all babies have to start cereal at 4 months. Doctors recommend starting between 4 and 6 months, so waiting a while won't hurt him. :)

I tried to give my baby cereal with a spoon at 4 months and she wasn't having it... so my pediatrician just told me to hold off, keep breastfeeding, and try again in another month. Everyone seems to have this magic number in their minds "4 months means time to start solids!" or parents do it because they want their babies to sleep through the night. My pediatrician told me that giving a baby cereal with the bottle could allow her to eat much more than she should... causing digestion problems that will actually cause your baby to sleep less at night. there's the also the risk (studies have shown) that too much cereal at a young age can cause diabetes or obesity later in life. The whole idea of cereal is to get them started on learning to spoon-feed, not because your baby needs those extra nutrients (anything your baby needs at 4 months can be provided through formula and/or breastmilk). i wouldn't do it.

The "experts" will tell you not to. I did with my 4 and 2 year olds, and it worked great. Neither one have ever been good eaters, and that was one way I could get them to eat when they were babies. You can also mix in a little bit of warmed strained fruit to make it a little more appealing. Sassy company sells a bottle specifically designed for feeding strained fruits, veggies, and cereal in. I believe you can get it at BabiesRUs. Good Luck!

Does anyone else find it ironic that the only two guys that have posted so far gave completely idiotic answers?!!

I've always heard that you should'nt, but I gave it to my friend's daughter when I was taking care of her, and she loved it, she wouldn't even let a spoon near her mouth, but she'd take the bottle with no problem. Just cut the nipple a little so the opening is a little bigger (not too big though).

After as bad as her mother was caring for her, she was very underweight, and when I started feeding her cereal she got up to a normal weight pretty quick.

I was told by my son's doctor to NOT put the cereal in the bottle because they can choke on it. It is not worth the risk. Just keep trying to feed him with a spoon.

Some babies are ready for solid food at this age, some aren't. He probably isn't ready for the solids on a spoon yet. He's still at the sucking stage. Keep giving him it in the bottle and every now and then try it on the spoon. Eventually, he'll get it.
