Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy (Naomie Harris), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) [to the untrained eye, his presentation may seem unorthodox, but procedurally, he is sound] is charismatic and flirtatious until - while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group - he gets romantically entangled with Isabella (Gong Li), the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one - especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves.

It was a television show in the mid 80's that took the basic cops and bad guys tv show genre to a new level. It focuses on a pair of undercover " vice " cops, and focuses on their experiences running down illegal drug smugglers in Miami Florida. What made the show differetn was the incorporation of excellent music ( instead of the usual Mike Post / Pete Caprenter stuff ) and helped break out alot of musical talent. you could pretty much expect that a song or artist breaking out on Miami Vice would be in the top 40 shortly thereafter. Also they took a serious edge in fashion, and captured the heart and soul of Miami in the 80's in mode fo dress and fashion rebellion. There was quite a bit of human interaction as well - it was not just cops arresting people .. it dove headfirst into the personal lives of the vice cops coveing their emotional states and their life goals / successes / failures. It also shows the stress and life changes that undercover cops have to go through when while they are ' working ' they pose as money is no object righ drug dealers driving top end cars and partying , then they go home to their real lives, their cop paychecks, divorces, failed realtionships, and personal sttruggles from their pasts.

I don't hold alot of hope for the movie, but it's well worth getting the box sets of the TV show. There has not been anything like it since, and there probably never will be.

it's based on the 80's tv series about two members of the Miami Vice Squad. the show starred Don Johnson - give it a watch if you can handle all the corny 80's stuff, or just wait to drool over Jamie Fox and Colin Farrell in the movie.

two under cover cops (crockett and tubs) who go to all most any extent to get the job done.

Movie looks great. I'm a huge fan of the old show.
