ok, like my high school teacher explained this to me once. when starting a story, they say "ok, so . . . " which is a clear indicator that they want everyone's attention. When they say "like" they are thinking of what to say so they say "like" to indicate that they aren't finished speaking.
Well, that was a while ago. Now days, girls who say "like" every other word are just dumb. They need to learn how to speak correctly, and not sound like valley girls.

They would speak that way to get time to organize their thoughts. I don't know why they write that way. Maybe it's announcing that they are teenagers.

most females think that by saying like or okay a lot helps them get their point across to whomever they are talking to.. i think that if that bothers you so much.. you should talk to them when they do that.
