The term "anime" can be used to define the broad genre of Asian animation, whether it be actual "cartoons" that are run on tv or in the movies, or any of the graphic novels and other merchandise items.

Anime typically refers to the shows and movies that are drawn either by hand or on the computer (not live action, real-people-on-the-screen stuff).

Manga are like Japanese comic books. True manga reads right to left, up and down, just like the Japanese language.

Most of the time, the manga is created first by the manga-ka (author) before any of the show/movie story boards are created. Some manga (like Rurouni Kenshin and Fullmetal Alchemist) are created concurrently with the show, thus giving the viewer two different endings.

As it is over here, most of the time, the manga is better then the show. Unless of course you have a favorite voice actor, then all bets are off!

What the hell are you talking about, there is a major difference, anime is on the tv, its a show and manga is a graphinc novel, you read it, thats the difference, and most animes are based off of manga, but some manga are based of anime and some anime just come out, though not many. And both are great, only jackasses like the first person who answered, think its for nerds, anime and manga is for everyone, although there is a age limit for most anime/manga, its much better than american cartoons and comicbooks, since it has a lot more than just comedy.

Anime = animated Japanese cartoon series
Manga = Japanese graphic novel series

Every anime has both an anime and a manga, and usually it's the manga that came before the anime. Kind of like books getting made into movies, manga gets made into anime.

Manga is the book itself, it kinda looks like a lengthy black and white comic book. When the title becomes a TV series it is called anime. Usually anime titles first start out as manga books but some titles like Samurai Champloo and Wolf's Rain make it as anime first and make manga books out of it.

manga is the comics. it has much more detail than the anime version of a story. anime is the cartoon version of the story. manga's don't necessarily need to be made into an anime but if by popular demand, they will be one. anime is better cuz its shorter. but if u really love the story read and watch both.. =)

Anime (アニメ, Anime?), which is short for the English word animation, in the western world most popularly refers to the medium of animation originating in Japan, with distinctive character and background aesthetics that visually set it apart from other forms of animation (e.g. Walt Disney films, Warner Bros. short cartoons). In Japan, the word anime is used to refer to all forms of animated film from around the world. While some anime is entirely hand-drawn, computer assisted animation techniques are, in recent years, quite common. Storylines are typically fictional; examples of anime representing most major genres of fiction exist. Anime is broadcast on television, distributed on media such as DVD and VHS, or included in computer and video games. Anime is often influenced by Japanese comics known as manga. Some anime storylines have been adapted into live action films and television series.

Manga (漫画, Manga?) is the Japanese word for comics and print cartoons. Outside of Japan, it usually refers specifically to Japanese comics. Manga developed from a mixture of ukiyo-e and foreign styles of drawing, and took its current form shortly after World War II. It comes mainly in black and white, except for the covers and sometimes the first few pages.

Popular manga is often adapted into anime (Japanese for animation) once a market interest has been established. (Manga is sometimes mistakenly called "anime" even when not animated.) Adapted stories are often modified to appeal to a more mainstream market. Although not as common, original anime is sometimes adapted into manga (such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop).
