here's a cool site, looks like a lot of reading, but not too much if you're interested... I found your answer there. The links are a bit hard to follow, but persevere...

"It was earlier believed that the basic tenets of Hinduism were brought to India by the Aryans who invaded the Indus Valley Civilization and settled along the banks of the Indus river about 2000 BC. However, the supposed invasion of the Indian subcontinent by the Aryans has now been proved to be a flawed one and is considered nothing more than a myth."

First of all, Hinduism is not a religion. Its a way of life.

The origins of the Hindu philosophy dates back to the Dravidian people who lived in the southern regions of the Indian subcontinent. This dates back over 10,000 years. Much before any other known form of philosophy or religion. The teachings of Hinduism are derived from the famous scriptures called the, "Rig Vedas." This knowledge has survived in India and many parts of Asia, despite the invasion of the Aryans, The Moors, The Christians, and the Moguls, etc.

That is Hinduism in a nut shell.

Some people say that hinduism is not a religion, its a way of life. Being a Hindu I agree to that. The history of Hinduism is so old and undocumented that it can be very hard to know for a fact as to when, where and who started this way of life.

according to my history course (hehe), hinduism (as a religion) has not been invented. i think the right word is "has started."
anyway, the early Aryans who settled (invaded) India started it.

I'm taking World History online, and the course sent me to this Hinduism site to help teach me about the ancient civilization's religions, and they said that no certain person, or group of people invited it... Which sounds almost impossible.

'Hindu' is a curious identity. A label for anyone East of the Indus (Sindhu) river*. A diverse culture consisting of Aryans (North/Euro Whites), Dravidians (Aboriginals/Dark), Muslim, Turkish (from countless invasions), Persian (Recent Immigration) and Christian.

There are 33 crore gods and godesses, each with its own following. No 'incendiary' texts to 'unite' us in violence, but truely deep works of yogis to make us seek truth.

So, sorry to say, Hindus will, thankfully never 'unite' in violent nature.

* Name given by Alexander The Great, who couldn't pronounce "Sindhu" and he and his Greek blokes, went on with 'Hindu'. BUT the culture and civilization (Indus Valley) existed thousands of years before him.

It hasn't been proven who created the religion or when it begin. But a lot of scholars say that it's the oldest religion.
