Under the Civil Law, you should return what is not due you because it is undue enrichment. Make other steps to return it to the owner in order to be safe from any civil suit.

have you watch the news lately? be careful cause there are lots of scams going on about money order either domestically or internationally.

since you know the person who send it to you, try send the item for collection where you bank at. just in case the item is fraudulent or counterfeit, you have a valid reason that your friend gave it to you. the bank collection department will notify you if the item is non-negotiable, there will be some charges, it varies depend on where the item is drawn on, either ahead of the transaction or between the remittance of funds.it better to be safe than sorry.

but then again, my concern is your question, what for? maybe he won the lottery? past debt? maybe he think you need assistance?

Look, this is serious. You should cash them immediately and send me the cash. I'll investigate and make sure that the money is able to be spent. Then once I've spent the money and nothing happens then you'll know next time to spend the money yourself.....

I think a money order is as good as cash, they had to pay for them before they got them....they don't want you to send it to Nigeria do they??

Why did you get them? If you sold something and this is the expected pay there is no problem cashing the MOs.

IF YOU TRULY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE FOR. I WOULD TAKE THEM TO THE POLICE AND HAVE THEM CHECKED TO BE SURE THEY ARE NOT FAKE!
IF THEY ARE NOT. MONEY ORDERS ARE THE SAME AS CASH. DO THEN WHATEVER YOU WISH WITH THE MONEY.

They're the same as cash. Deposit 'em -- you won't be doing anything wrong.
