Why do you say the dealer guy is full of it? They hire the same people as the Jiffy lube.. the great people as well as the also rans that any shop will have....
The guy above me probably takes care of how he runs his shop.. Some are like that as he tries to keep customer satisfaction and quality up, other quick lubes I've seen just hire someone, give him a wrench and leaves him alone... I wouldn't say his guys know more that a dealer tech (they probably know as much as the maintainace tech at the quicklane, but I don't expect them to be doing hard driveability like I do)

Usually most dealers will do Oil changes compareable to other chain stores like Goodyear or Firestone to attract and keep customers. Hoping you are happy with the service, you'll come back

Jiffy Lubes are good but sometimes they hire brain deads that forget the plug... every place is like that.. that's why they have something called supervisors who are supposed to do a quick inspection BEFORE handing the car back

the quickie lubes do have a habit of trying to sell extras, as the extras make them more profit than the oil change

and sometimes you will be surpised on who changes your oil... usually if I had a oil change on a ticket with other work I did it also.. 10 year wrench Manufacturer certified doing oil changes..ain't gonna see that at Jiffy Lube

I think that the dealer guy is full of himself. I would not take my car to the dealer for anything unless is was a warranty issue. I have seen more dealer errors than "Jiffy 5.15" . Wage doesn't matter when it comes to taking care of your car. What matters is the type of people hired and how they are trained. I have about 30 people that work for me and have had a great experience with them all. Most are kids either in high school or college. They are eager to learn and they know that this is a stepping stone job to get them through school. When it comes to regular car maintenance I can bet you my guys know just as much if not more than a dealer mechanic. So what the heck go to jiffy lube, uncle rays oil change whatever you are comfortable with. If you like the dealer then go there too. Just remember price isn't everything. If you feel more comfortable somewhere and it is a couple of bucks more so what. Plus look at the type of oil used I know as a Pennzoil 10 minute owner that Pennzoil is the most expensive oil to buy. So yes I have to charge more but I'm not filling my pockets with money I charge according to what I am being charged.

I say he is full of himself because I am sick of people at dealerships badmouthing the quick lube stores. We change oil on more cars in one day than they probably do in a week.(unless they have a quick lube in their dealership). I have nothing against dealerships except their egos. From the salesperson down to the janitor they think they are better than any one. You go to a Mcdonalds in one town and get bad service does that mean all mcdonalds are bad? Same thing applies to the quick lube industry. Most stores are independantly owned and operated. But people dont realize that and think well I went to a Pennzoil and they sucked so I wont use Pennzoil anymore. I hear it all the time. I explain that all Pennzoil ten minute stores are independantly owned and all run things different. And I cant say for all but we dont push anything that doesnt need to be sold. If it is time according to the owners manual to have something serviced or changed then we do it. None of my employees make commision. I have people tell me the dealership tries to sell them more crap than we do.

You can get an oil change from my dealer for 17 bucks, including fluid top off, 17 BUCKS! Why do you want to take it to Jiffy (forgot to put the oil plug back in, for 5.15 an hour) Lube! You think the dealer's prices are too high? Have you ever checked? Probably not. We know your vehicle inside and out, why not bring it back to us, we'll take care of your investment.

I saw a investigative report about Jiffy Lube RIPPING people off in the San Diego area. I've used them and never had a problem. But they do seem to higher priced than others. I don't necessarily think their service is worth the extra cash.

We use Jiffy Lube. (Only with coupons). It is nice because they do keep a record of what has been done in the past.

Give it a try - most of them are pretty good, but some have a tendency to try to sell you 'extras' like tranny oil flushes, rad flush, etc. Tell them you just want an oil, filter and lube, and get the rest done only if you need it. (Check your owners manual for service intervals)

Expensive, but they'll pay for your engine if they ever forget to tighten the drain-plug and you run dry!

Not to mention: fast. Time is money and no hassling with the dealer wanting a (WHAT?) appointment (for an oil change).

Some times the "extras" they're telling you about are absolutely necessary. They won't try to sell you something that your car doesn't need (according to their service records), but they will charge a bunch for it.

I don't like them. They're too expensive for what they do and they don't always do a great job. If you just need a quick change, it's OK. But I wouldn't take my car there on a regular basis.
