CZ's have their place, just like anything else. A diamond will NEVER be replaced for engagements. CZ's are great any other time, just be careful of what you're buying.

My Ex-husband left me; 45 days later he was engaged to another woman with a $20,000.00 engagement ring he couldn't afford. (It was initially charged on a credit card that was mine and he was an auth user.) ANYWAY....when i found out about the ring (mine was < $1200.00) I felt awful about myself. A friend's husband is a wholesale costume jewelry salesman and she brought some samples to work one day. One of the items she'd brought in was a triangle cut, 3 carat CZ set in silvere. It was beautiful! I had to have it but I was afarid of what it might cost and boy was I surprised. I bought it for $12.00!!!!! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Now I know what you're thinking-it's not a real diamond; it looks cheap; get some self-esteem and find another man that would buy ME a $20,000.00 diamond. Well you're WAY off base. As a matter of fact, I have received compliments at least 50% of the times I've worn it out and I wear it at least 5 days a week. I've had girls, cashiers at Build-a-Bear to women in 4-star restaurants compliment my "diamond." I ALWAYS tell them it's just a crystal, actually Swarovski and what I paid for it. They are ALWAYS impressed and tell me I should lie about it.

It really makes me feel good about myself that I didn't have to have a $20,000 ring on my finger to validate me (and the reason why I'm with the guy.) My attitude and a little piece of immitation "bling-bling" says it all.

If you buy CZ's, go for expensive LOOKING pieces. If you aren't picky, then you deserve to be ridiculed by snobby-diamond-only-wearing-idiots. My pendant is beautiful and looks "rich" and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

The fad is "bling" and it doesn't necessarily have to be real. Sparkly and shiny. Not gaining prestige more than just being more acceptable due to the fashion trend.

If you're buying it for someone other than yourself... steer clear... diamonds (real) are the only acceptable gift if buying something that looks like a diamond!

Only a jeweler can tell the difference between a diamond and a cz. They are not more prestigious, just more affordable.

I would steer clear of any store that glorified CZs... They are not my best friend.
