We are now finding that Women are just as capable of committing the same types of heinous crimes as men, and about 42 years ago a group of active women started a Movement called the Womens Lib. who struck out to prove that women were equal to men,so they Demanded "Equal Rights" for women.Their motto being, "Anything a man can do", "A woman can do it better." So now, today with crime on the rise, and a great many being committed by women as well as men, I thought I`d ask the question, Do we make a difference in the sexes, when it comes to Laws of sentencing women for committing same type heinous crimes as committed by men, or does our system find loop holes for most women, because they are women, and not men?.......... because they find...... there.......really is.....a difference.....in the Sexes ?????

Maybe "this thing" varies according to the State one lives in. A lot of women been running over their husbands and b/f lately, with cars and killing them, and all defence is saying "he abused me" since the first one recieved such a lite sentence, using that excuse toget off.

oohhbother, oh brother! the crimes people commit today has nothing to do with the movements of womens "anything", I made a statement because "Equality" means to recieve equal status etc.and seems has not been much equality given when certain crimes are committed by women in my State, so I asked to see if that is the way it seems in other places.I`M 63 yrs. old & and I took nothing out of context. I asked for Answers to a question, not opinions about how I feel about womens lib. I know more women axe murderers than lizzie b.before the w.l.mov.

Its been my experience as a correctional officer the saying goes, "Do the crime like a man, do the time like a man." In otherwords, I don't see where women get away easier in sentencing than men. Case in point. I know of a case where three people bludgeoned a man to death. Two of the killers were women, and the third a man. The man recieved six years. The white woman recieved 25 and the black woman recieved 50 years. The two white assailants were family members of the victim.
But back to your question, no, I don't really see where women are getting off with lighter sentences and I've worked both male and female units.

Not entirely true. In some cases, yes. But it has always been that way. There are always women who end up in trouble - just statistically less likely than men.

The problem isn't that the criminal justice system is more tolerant of heinous crimes by women than they are of men. The truth is that men or women, the justice system treats them equally. Until they get to the jury, the justice system is generally fairer and more impartial no matter what the crime or the sex of the felon.

The problem is that juries - whether the crime is a heinous one or not, tend to be more severe on women than on men. I think part of the problem is that jurors tend to be more women than men, in some cases, and often older, by and large, than the felons on trial. I don't think there is a sex differential. I think there is a jury differential.

The incidence of violent crime committed by women has not changed. Have you never heard of Lizzie Borden? The rate of violent crime is now and has always been a tiny percentage of the rate of violent crime committed by men.

Your interpretation of the women's movement as "Anything a man can do", "A woman can do it better." is also flawed. The women's movement was about women being given the opportunity to use their abilities.

You are obviously trying to place blame on the women's movement for crimes committed by women, but you have confabulated evidence to support that belief.

I read an interesting study once that found women rated as being very attractive generally fared better in lawsuits than less attractive women, provided it is a jury trial. If found guilty the punishment for attractive women was generally less than what the average was for less attractive women or men. However, if the woman's appearance played a role in the crime - for example, if she used her good looks to con a man out of money -punishments were generally harsher than average.
