Cubic Zirconia is a silicon based material that appears similar to diamonds. However, upon closer inspection of it's properties it lacks the density and complexity of a real diamond. Cubic Zirconia was one of the first products of the attempts at diamond synthesis. Initially, it was mistaken as a diamond but was later confirmed to be a synthetic attempt at diamond reproduction.

Cubic zirconia (or CZ) is zirconium oxide (ZrO2), a mineral that is extremely rare in nature but is widely synthesized for use as a diamond simulant. The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors. It should not be confused with zircon, which is a zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4).

Because of its low cost, durability, and close visual likeness to diamond, synthetic cubic zirconia has remained the most gemologically and economically important diamond simulant since 1976. Its main competition as a synthetic gemstone is the more recently cultivated material moissanite.

The diamonds enemy they look identical could fool a girl if she's in love. But the the true diamond is worth a couple of $100's leading to $1000's. While the other is about $50 or so. By the way a true diamond has more of a shine.

On the scale from 1-10, the diamond is something like 8, or 9, and the CZ is just a couple of rungs down the ladder.
It's a poor quality diamond.

Cubic Zirconium is an imitation of diamond. It is mostly impossible for someone other than an expert to tell the difference between Cubic Zirconium and Diamond. One way is that diamonds are harder.
