I'll agree with Meredia. Scientists though have been searching for years and they say that if it ever existed it should be at the Aegean Sea and that the greek islands are actually the mountain tops of Atlantis. They also believe ancient greek rumours that the people of Atlantis had really elaborate technology and that they had made the first robots. There was even a convention on the matter held at Santorini island a couple of years ago.

I agree with the ones who say it was Santorini. It had a huge volcano, bigger than the one which buried Pompeii, which exploded not long before Plato's time. Recently, dives off the coast have shown that most of the island was blown away, including the main city. Beautiful artwork has been recovered which depicts a peaceful Minoan society which lived there. They were more advanced than other Mediterranean societies of the time, as Atlantis was supposed to be, and evidence haas been found of a port which matches the description of Plato. There was enough time between the eruption and Plato's time for it still to be remembered, but for the circumstances to have become exaggerated enough to create his story of Atlantis.

Atlantis is originally described by Plato, the original creator of the myth, as a "utopia". This originates from the Greek word meaning "no place" most literally, with its connotation being that of a good no place. Atlantis has never existed, and ths is not located anywhere.

If you believe that there was a world wide flood since there is stories of one in almost every society and culture then Atlantis could very well have been the land before the flood. And it is possible that there was one continent called pangea and it split up during the flood. We could very well be standing on what was once atlantis.

I saw an interesting show in "The Travel Channel" and they said that some believe it was the Island of Bimini in the Bahamas. Underneath, as one dives in the ocean, there is a long stone road. Why would someone build a road underwater.
